Shirreef Loza

Shirreef Loza is a Senior International Trade Specialist with the United States Department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service in Raleigh, NC. In this role, Shirreef actively works with commercial officers in U.S. Embassies globally to promote U.S. businesses, schools, hospitals and organizations in international markets. Since 2003, Shirreef has held a variety of leadership roles on the U.S. Commerce Healthcare, Education, and Information Communication Technology industry teams, and served as Deputy Leader for the Africa/Near East/South Asia regional team.

Shirreef served as the Senior Commercial Officer in Kuwait in 2012, and in 2016 received the U.S. Commerce Silver Medal Award for his work on Trade Winds, the largest ever U.S. government led trade mission to Africa. In 2010, in coordination with UNC Schools System, he helped create Study North Carolina, a comprehensive international recruitment tool for the state. Shirreef was a pioneer at the formation of the International Trade Administration’s Health IT initiative, culminating in a formalized strategic partnership between the ITA and HIMSS, the world’s leading cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on health improvement through information and technology. In 2006, he spearheaded the U.S. Commercial Service’s strategic partnership with eBay to support U.S. small business ecommerce exporters. Shirreef currently leads the International Patient Programs campaign for the International Trade Administration, recruiting international patients to U.S. hospitals and clinics, and promoting U.S. healthcare in global markets.

Prior to joining the U.S. Commercial Service, Shirreef worked for over seven years in the private sector, holding roles in service, sales and marketing at IKON, research assistant and clinical research associate at PPD, and management positions in the Agriculture, History and Foreign Language departments at N.C. State University. Shirreef holds a B.A. in Philosophy and a Master of International Studies with a concentration on US – Middle East International Relations from N.C. State University.
